Starbucks (Canada)

Green Tea Latte, venti, $5.25
看到上面那些一小塊綠綠的東西了沒?

那些就是沒有攪拌均勻的綠茶粉。

不知他們在趕什麼工? 一下子就做好了,但是品質呢?

very lousy work ~~

還有,在點餐時,也沒有問我是要熱的還是冷的,也沒有問我甜度是否要調整。

非要我提醒他我要iced他才改杯子。

還一直急忙的問我是否要點其它的食物 (anything to eat?),問了好幾次。

實在是.....

跟台灣的服務品質差遠了。

平平都是打工族,為什麼加拿大的態度竟是那麼的XX。

第一次來這間店。

Iced Cappuccino

Sushi Moto

這又是一間由韓國人所開的日本料理店 (on Yonge St., in Toronto, ON)

我之前路過好幾次了,因為這間店的外表是個pub,我後來才知道是間日本料理店。

裡面的擺設也是走pub和西式dining place風格,牆上有一堆電視在播放體育頻道。

服務生也是走西式料裡的服裝,黑色的連身衣(裙子很短)。

很可惜的是,他們的服務態度不佳。

我剛進去時,站在那邊幾乎有一分鐘左右,沒有人來招呼我。

店中央區的廚師們各個低頭在做自己的事。

直到我等到其中一位廚師抬頭時,我趕緊向他招手,他才通知服務生來招呼我。

我在用餐時發現他們對後來進門的每一位顧客都有打招呼。

我心裡想,這是怎樣?就因為我是個東方人嗎?為何會有差別待遇呢?

最後我買單時有一個白人進來詢問如何點外賣,我看他在那邊跟女服務生講了一會,最後他跟那位女服務生解釋說他不是現在要點外賣,他這次只是來問一下而已。

結果那位女服務(是個韓國熟女)生居然沒有等那位先生講完話就掉頭離開 ~~

那位先生站在那裏,手裡還拿著菜單,還蠻有禮貌的跟那個掉頭離開的女服務生說謝謝。

無言呀 無言 ~~

我後來我結完帳時,那個熟女服務生用"炒菜下料的"方式把我的收據、信用卡簽單、和付送的糖果一起從帳單夾上推到桌上給我。

然後她也沒有跟我說謝謝,也沒有說再見,就這樣離開。

我這時已決定終身再也不來這家店了。

我離開時,同樣的,所有店員還是一樣當啞吧。

他們必須要了解到,餐飲業也是服務業。

當你們的東西沒有非常突出的特色時,服務的好壞會是顧客決定要不要回來的關鍵。

Small Sashimi, $25.95
這一道菜我一個人吃都覺得有點太多。
Nice decoration.  擺盤還不錯。但是不知道為何salmon要分開兩份來擺放。
至於味道方面,因為沒有cooking involved,所以到哪一家吃都差不多。
不過,大概可以確定的是,那些sashimi應該還蠻新鮮的,沒有那種從冷凍庫拿出來退冰後的濕濕的口感。

韓國人做的日本拉麵

Kenzo Ramen (on Yonge St., in Toronto, ON)

今天第一次光臨這間店,之前路過好幾次已有注意到他們店前那個會動的拉麵模型。
進去後店員用那1001句的日本語來問候我。
但是我點完餐後就發現其實所有的員工都是韓國人。

桌上站立的小menu有列出三種抹茶飲料:
- matcha iced tea
- matcha latte
- matcha smoothie

在夏天推出這種冷飲促銷方案真的不錯。
因為之前一直有在喝星巴克的green tea latte,所以我就點了他們的matcha latte。

Matcha Latte, $3.95
很濃很好喝,跟星巴克的一樣好喝。
不知道他們是怎麼弄的,居然沒有那些綠渣渣,還不錯。
不過,扣掉冰塊後,能喝的剩下不多。 grrrrrrrrrrr.......

Tonkotsu Ramen, $9.95
味道還不錯,有肉也有綠色的蔬菜。
至於湯頭,不知是不是有加MSG,因為後來回家的途中一直覺的口渴。

二次光臨。
照樣點了他們的matcha latte,沒辦法,我就是嘴饞。

Sapporo Miso Ramen, $10.95
這個吃起來有點像我們的大滷麵,因為給我的感覺好像是大雜鍋麵一樣。
有豆芽、黑木耳、香菇、和一些蔬菜。
在肉的方面,好像是用碎的豬絞肉,吃起來好像是豬肉漢堡肉一樣。
整體來說,還不錯吃啦。

The Keg (on Leslie St., in Don Mills, ON),我又回來了!

點了下列東西來享用:

starter:
Mojito (我的最愛), $9.25
基本上我覺得這些餐廳所推出的冷飲都是暴利~~!
怎麼說呢?
你看看,去掉冰塊,還剩多少是真正可以喝的?
所以啦,久久喝一次就好了 :)
不過,mojito真的很合我的口味啦。

Sourdough (付送的)
吃他們的麵包時,一定要沾旁邊那個creme一起吃才好吃。
香濃的不得了!

French Onion Soup (來The Keg必點的), $7.95
看起來很濃,其實味道不會很重。
洋蔥都快要煮化了,配上那香濃的起司,真是美味。

entree:
Steak (sirloin) and Half Lobster (這幾個禮拜他們推出的特餐), $38.95
我覺得在吃這種海陸餐時,最好趁熱先吃牛排和配菜。
牛排我通常都會要求在medium熟就好了。
龍蝦留到最後再吃,因為剝殼和挖那些小龍蝦肉很費工時。
他們有附上熱奶油,所以就算龍蝦冷掉也不用擔心,要吃時沾一下熱奶油就好了。

dessert:
Crème Brûlée, $6.95
這其實不是我想要的那種日式焦糖布丁。
裡面是香草口味的濃稠paste,不過也很好吃喔。

Cappuccino, $3.75
點了creme boule的同時,waiter附帶問我要expresso還是capuccino?
我選了capuccino,但是我後來想了想 這跟我點的creme boule有甚麼關係?
老外吃creme boule的同時一定要喝咖啡嗎?
有必要那麼的呆版嗎? :)

我有要求要打包沒吃完的sourdoug,識大體的waiter後來包了個新的給我 :)

這參總共消費金額是:
subtotal:  $66.85
HST:  $8.69 (真是不折不扣的萬稅國)
total:  $ 75.54

我小費給$7.00,可是我覺得那個waiter看到後好像不怎麼太開心耶 :(

主餐幾乎等於我快兩個禮拜的菜錢~~!哈哈

我要離開前再來光顧一次吧 :D

chefs with no passion

The followings dishes are foods made by chefs who, in my opinion, do not cook with passion.

These foods are made with absolutely no delicacy and they are only meant to fill you up. That's all. These are foods with no love.

I am pretty sure that those chefs consider cooking as a job, not as a profession.
Cooking is an art.

Sushi Yoko and Tomato

Every morning when we drive by this place on our way to work, I am always puzzled by its strange sign which says "Tomato and Sushi Yoko".

The "Tomato" word is written in hiragana and the "Sushi Yoko" words are written as they are shown.

I have wondered how tomato is related to this Sushi Yoko.

Well, a few days ago, I found my answer.

Tomato is actually a Japanese grocery store and Sushi Yoko is a Japanese restaurant.
Both of them are located in the same "warehouse" like building which is very eccentric.

The entrance of the building has the Suite # of Tomato on the right hand side and the Suite # of Sushi Yoko on the left hand side. It's very confusing.

After entering the building, a long hallway leads downwards to the entrance of Tomato and the entrance of Sushi Yoko.

There are "day-care" type of paintings on the wall along the hallway.
The wall is actually painted with tomato figures and cartoon characters. If I weren't told that this is a sushi place, I would definitely have guessed that this place is a daycare centre.

The Tomato grocery store has all kinds of Japanese magazines, DVD's, drinks, and foods that you would normally see in a typical Japanese store. This reminds me of Vancouver and Taiwan.

The clerk at the check-out counter actually spoke Japanese to me when I was paying for my stuff. This is very odd.... either I looked like a Japanese tonight (which is usually not the case because I am pretty sure that I don't look like a Japanese) or that clerk just likes speaking Japanese to all non-Caucasian people who visit their store. Either she expects all Asians to know some Japanese or the crappy Japanese imperialism ideology is screwing the shit out of her mind.

Sushi Yoko is operated by pure Japanese, I guess, because the main chefs are real Japanese, unlike those other "counterfeit" Japanese restaurants commonly seen in North America.

The chefts are from Tokyo... because I was "secretly" listening to the conversation between them and customers.

The food is great. I ordered sushi and sashimi tonight and they are excellent. I haven't had sashimi for almost a year now, so I am glad to eat them "raw".... haha

Bento Cafe in Atlanta

I ordered Bento Chop for take-out.

The restaurant is located in the HK plaza.

It is quite clean and has simple design with high ceiling.

The chef and his wife are working in the kitchen.

It's a pure Asian place.

The clerk is Asian and customers are Asian too.

The food is good.

The milk tea is a bit light and it's not as tasty as the one in Taiwan.

Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Regional Director was here today to visit us and he invited all of us for dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen.

There were 7 of us and we ordered "FIVE" dozens of raw oysters for appetizer ~~~~ hahaha

I had "many" fresh, good-taste, raw oysters.... too bad, my gf is not here with me tonight at the hotel... ho ho ho ;)

I am not sure why Mahi has to do with Alexander.

Is it because King Alexander likes Mahi?

Or because a guy called "Alexander" invented this dish?

Also, the rice they use for the dish is actually called "dirty rice".

geeee.. why is it called "dirty rice"?

It has ground pork in it and it actually tastes quite good.

anyways....

Before we ordered our desserts, the waiter said: "I will bring you guys the dessert menu."

I still remembered he used the word "menu".

A few minutes later, he came with a big plate full of all kinds of desserts to let us see and choose. It was like a "live" dessert display. woow :)

Too bad I didn't take a picture of that because my bosses were there and I didn't want to act like a foolish tourist taking all kinds of pictures.

hahahaha.... I've never seen such a vivid, lively, creative dessert menu ~~!!

Super Bowl Sunday

Went to get a new hair cut

The barber is a Vietnamese... I think.

Well, she did an OK job.

Bought some more food afterwards.

Then went to JR's Log house to get my very fist rib-meal.

Stone Mountain & Downtown Atlanta

A mountain made of a big piece of stone.

My boss was so nice that he just didn't want to pay $20 to get on the skyride to get to the top of the mountain.

After hiking in Stone Mountain, we drove downtown for dinner.

We went to this restaurant called "Jalapeno Charlies".

The nachos was quite good and so was the Coke.

I ordered a Cuban Steak and it sure didn't taste like a Cuban Steak.

I was having a hard time trying to chew up the beef.

Chinatown... pathetic

We went to Atlanta Chinatown for lunch today.

What a trash place.

It's just a small, old plaza.

The first store that I noticed when we arrived there is the 世界日報 store.

It was closed at that time.

I looked into their window and I can see that it's like a grocery store selling all kinds of stuff (non-edible though).

The food court is inside the plaza.

On our way into the food court, we passed a Chinese style garden.

It has a pond and a little bridge and the wall has Great Wall painting on it.

It sure looks like a traditional Chinese garden.

But, why do you need to build a traditional Chinese style garden at Chinatown.

Why is it a must?

Why can't you build something that's more innovative?

The food court looks like a warehouse with very little decoration.

Most of the people eating there are old, middle-age Cantonese guys.

The restaurants there are just miserable.

I can only think of one word to describe the whole place -----> pathetic.

I was imagining the scenario of my gf and I eating in that place.

What would life be for us (my gf and I) if we were to live in that area and go to that place to eat everyday?

what a nightmare.

Why is it that Chinatowns in most NA cities are always old, filthy, out-dated, and full of old stereotype Chinese images????

Why?

Why can't they build a better place?

Why Why Why?

There is a grocery store opposite to the Chinatown.

There are dozens of jobless South-American like people standing in front of the store.

the orange colour sauce tastes like the one used in 京都肉排

it's a sweet > sour sauce

it's mixed with onion, red, and green pepper

it's a good dish that i would definitely recommend.

good bye my temp Canadian Visa

今天小老闆載我去 downtown Atlanta 的 Canadian Consulate General 去拿我的 formal Canadian Visa.

我這次是用台北發的 temporary passport 進來美國的。

到了17樓進入 consulate 跟櫃台人員表明來意後,他就叫我進入旁邊的 booth 等另一個服務人員。

服務人員來後,她請我把我的小白 temporary passport 透過抽屜繳回,然後她把裝著我的 formal Vias 的信封袋透過抽屜交給我。

完成啦 ~~~

拿到我的 Canadian Passport 啦 ~~~

拿完後在等小老闆之餘,我在一樓的 food court 閒逛,順便買了個 Fat Sam Fajita。

Microwave steak

因為在小老闆的房間見識到煎牛排的後果後,我決定用別的方法來弄我的牛排。

我沒選用烤箱因為 hotel 他們居然沒有給烤盤。

奇怪,那幹嘛還在廚房裡放個烤箱讓我們來用呀。

所以我只好選擇 microwave 來煮我的牛排了。

以下是煮後的心得:

小老闆招待吃牛排

傍晚小老闆親在他的房間自下廚煮牛排給我和 Steve 吃

小老闆在煎牛排的時候把窗戶打開

我正在納悶的時候,他說爐台上面的那個抽風機是完全沒有用的

因為它沒有排氣管,所以抽的風會直接由抽風機上的排氣孔吹回到廚房

哈哈

果蠻沒錯

沒一會

整個房間都是煙,還真有牛排店的味道呢

還好 smoke detector 沒有響

Steve 說那個 smoke detector 也是個單獨作業的東東,不會連到整棟

哈哈

just to pick up my iPhone from Lloyd

(also because my 4-month is due)

I arrived at about 4:30 pm in HK

met Lloyd and his gf
